Make Sure Your Lawn is Clean
First of all, the time has come to ensure that your lawn is clean. Raking the leaves is a common part of fall landscaping, and that should be one of your preparations for the arrival of winter as well. Debris, tools, toys, and so on can be scattered throughout the lawn – so be sure to get them off the ground and put back in storage. Otherwise, the grass is in danger of being harmed or stunted before it can start growing again.
Add More Mulch If Necessary
Another great suggestion we have for you is to add more mulch to your landscape if you think it needs it. That way, your plants, trees, and shrubs can be insulated against the cold. This technique, in turn, can help protect against the effects of soil erosion and moisture loss. Even though late fall and early winter can see their fair share of rainy days, the ground is going to be cold and dry, especially after the first freeze of the season. Using your lawnmower to mulch fallen leaves is quick and easy, and could save you some money as well.
Cover Up Fledgling Trees
Trees are an essential part of your custom home’s landscape. As such, no landscaping endeavor can be considered complete without caring for them properly. Putting down wire mesh around the base of younger trees can stop wild animals from chewing on their vulnerable bark.
Keep Everyone Off the Lawn
Another landscaping trick that is easier said than done is to tell everyone to stay off the lawn. Foot traffic is going to be at an all-time high during the summer; however, do not underestimate the effects of people and pets walking on your lawn during the winter – after all, it’s easier to get through snow and ice that way! This means that you need to maintain the sidewalks and walkways around your property and discourage anyone from parking directly on your grass.
Get Rid of Snow
Start preparing for snow. Even though the first few snowfalls might not stick, mild Decembers could give way to slushy Januarys and even a blizzard in February. As such, get rid of snow as soon as you see it. Low branches can easily break off and damage the roof or siding of your home.
