What is the Best Siding Material to Use for Your Home?

There are two main jobs siding must do: protect, and provide aesthetics.

Choosing your siding material can be a big step when it comes to creating a custom home. It affects the cost significantly, and what you pick matters when your home is fighting against the elements. After all, there are two main jobs siding must do: protect, and provide aesthetics. To ensure you’re electing the right material, read on and let us show you the different benefits of each.

Vinyl

By far, this is the most popular choice in the US. Vinyl siding is cheap and easy to take care of, and also does the job when it comes to durability. Because of its frequency, vinyl siding has also taken on many helpful features, like UV protection and a wide variety of colors. But vinyl isn’t the only material to use. Perhaps you’d like to stand out, or choose something a little more natural.

Veneer Stone

Stone is one of those natural choices that isn’t really natural. Veneer stone doesn’t occur in our environment; it’s actually a mixture of several different materials, like concrete and real stone. Because of this, veneer isn’t porous, which means it won’t hold moisture. It won’t grow mildew or mold. Maintenance is low, but you still reap the benefits of a beautiful looking home.

Brick

We as humans have been using fired clay (bricks) for our homes for centuries. It’s durable. It’s aesthetically pleasing. It’s low maintenance! Brick will stand up to the elements for years, despite needing to replace the mortar every now and then. It doesn’t discolor or fade like vinyl does. And it’s also fully natural, unlike veneer stone.

Concrete

While a little on the expensive side, this material can be used in warmer climates to ward off moisture more. More modern homes use concrete to give a smooth finish. When using concrete, you’re mostly going to go for the aesthetics of it, because of the cost. Still, it doesn’t sacrifice its durability for looks, and will continue standing tall for years.
