Ideas for Extra Rooms: Laying Out Your Wine Cellar

Beyond the rooms that every home has – such as a master bedroom, a bathroom, a laundry room, and a great room, you will probably have some space set aside for bonus rooms or extra rooms.

Your custom home will be designed and built from the ground up to meet all of your expectations and bring your dreams to life. Beyond the rooms that every home has – such as a master bedroom, a bathroom, a laundry room, and a great room, you will probably have some space set aside for bonus rooms or extra rooms. If you need some inspiration, then you have come to the right place. Here is a guide to designing and laying out your wine cellar!

Figure Out How You Want to Use It

Every extra room is different. Without a doubt, the wine cellar will be used to store and showcase your extensive collection of fine wine. That will be the centerpiece of the room. So it may come as a surprise that our first piece of advice is to determine how you want to use the room. If you plan on using it for small gatherings of friends and families, then be sure to include some comfy seating or a bar counter. You could also make it so that the cellar is the star of the show during your next dinner party – even if that won’t be for a while. Put together an elegant set of tables and chairs. A small refrigerator can also be used to store seafood, meat, or pasta dishes that you want to pair with your wine.

Add Sufficient Refrigeration

More than likely, your wine cellar will be a part of your basement or will take up the entire space you set aside for the basement. This means that it will presumably be a cooler part of your home. Either way, be sure to add sufficient refrigeration in your wine cellar. The temperature for this area should be kept between 55-60 degrees Fahrenheit. That might be a far cry from other extra rooms in your home, which probably don’t need to be kept as cool even in the sweltering heat of summer.

Optimize Storage Potential

When it comes to designing your custom home, some rooms are going to be bigger than others. That said, even if you don’t have the biggest selection of wines, you will still want to optimize your storage potential. Use horizontal wine racks to hold as many bottles as you can fit in your cellar.

Hire the Right Builder Partner

Finally, be sure to hire the right builder partner to help ensure all of your extra rooms, such as the wine cellar, meet and exceed your expectations. Make sure the partner company is licensed and insured. Feel free to ask for references as well. If you have any questions, give us a call today!
