Prepare the Dig Spot
The second step is to prepare the dig spot where the pond will be built. Begin by digging to a depth of 12” to give the first shelf enough room for marginal plants. Then make sure that it is 1’ wide; beyond that, verify that the depth measures 24” and watch out for protruding tree roots that can interfere with your efforts.

The third step is to determine the location of the actual koi pond equipment. Biological and mechanical filters are configured during this time, and this step is important because the water needs to clean enough to make your fish happy.
Insert the Pond Liner

The underlayment and liner protect your lawn against water damage. However, the liner needs to be attached to the skimmer and filter to reach full effectiveness.

Large stones, edge stones, ordinary rocks, and smooth stones come together to create a cohesive aesthetic that is more pleasing to the eye and protects your koi fish from hurting themselves as they swim around.
Finish It Up
LED lights, aerators, and water round out the design of your koi pond. Be sure to treat the water and clean up the lawn and garden around your pond to make sure weeds and fallen leaves don’t cause problems. Aquatic plants can help keep the water clean and give your koi something to snack on as well!
