Hi there! Last week, we focused on how to make the most of your home’s outdoor living areas. Summer is almost here as Memorial Day takes place this coming Monday. As such, we’ve collected another list of outstanding ideas for transforming your home’s interior design into an oasis from the heat and humidity outside. What should you do? Read on to learn more!
Play Around with New Drapery
Drapes, curtains, and other window coverings are amazing additions to any home. One of the best reasons to use them (even if they aren’t of the blackout variety) is that they can shield your home’s interior from the intense summer sunlight. Two great ideas we have for you are sheer curtains and bamboo shades. Want to try something else? Remote-controlled shades and blinds are great additions to your home as well!
Incorporate Nature-Themed Accessories
Bringing the outside in is another core tenant of summertime interior design. One fantastic way to do this is by integrating accessories that evoke the natural world. Wooden baskets can hold sandals, hats, and sunglasses. Meanwhile, wooden candlesticks, coasters, and bowls can make your coffee table or dining room more appealing. Palm-printed pillows and throw blankets add a nice touch, too.
Do Some More Spring Cleaning
Spring cleaning is a yearly tradition that comes along during March, April, and May. Freeing up more living space in your home isn’t hard. The trick is to do a second round of spring cleaning. Put away some odds and ends in wicker baskets. Such items include candles, decorations, toys, and old mail and magazines that you no longer need.
Open up the windows and make sure they open and close as smoothly as they should. Put extra pillows and blankets in storage for the time being. Use a dryer sheet to get the dust off of your baseboards. Then change out your bed linens so that fresh sheets and lighter comforters take center stage. You’ll also want to double-check your home’s built-in HVAC to make sure it’s running without any problems.
Add Some More Greenery
One nifty suggestion that carries over from spring is to add some more greenery. Doing this both inside and outside of your home’s structure will beautify your entire property. Peace lilies, snake plants, and succulents improve indoor air quality in exchange for weekly waterings. If you need to work from home, use these leafy friends to oxygenate the room and help you think!
Embrace the Power of Fragrance
While changing the lighting fixtures and rearranging the furniture increase the summery vibes in your home, don’t be afraid to embrace the power of fragrance. Candles, scented oils, and diffusers call to mind pleasant memories while also fighting off unpleasant odors left behind by typically household tasks and your furry friends. We suggest citrusy scents such as lemon and orange plus florals like lilac and rose.
